artist statement

Megan Churchill is a ceramic artist exploring the space between perfectionism and playfulness. Finding herself somewhere in the middle, she searches for balance through uniting clean, minimalistic form with the sensuality of glaze.

Churchill’s practice utilizes a variety of making methods, combining and contrasting different stages of clay production in a singular, carefully constructed final body of work. Experimenting with accents of texture and color, glaze recipe research has been an integral part of her practice and a recent source of inspiration.

Driven by passion, care and attention to detail, the motivation for Churchill’s work comes from everyday life and acknowledgement of the little things around us. She gives expression to the overwhelming feelings that reside within ordinary objects, hidden in plain sight.

Churchill often feels that her emotions seem to quietly overflow within. Through the development of her ceramic practice, Churchill has been able to see the strength she has in responding to objects in a caring and thoughtful way.
